Cats and dogs are often seen as sworn enemies, but despite their hilarious antics and infamous squabbles, they can sometimes surprise us by becoming the best of frenemies. One pet pair perfectly illustrated this in a video shared by their owner. Using GPS trackers by Tractive, the pet owner traced the live location of both pets to show how his cat secretly follows him and the dog every time they go for a walk.

The video shows a satellite view of both pets’ paths, revealing that while the dog loyally followed its owner on the sidewalk, the cat—secretly eager to join in—took a winding route through the bushes, stealthily trailing behind to avoid detection. Perhaps the cat is following them out of curiosity, or maybe it just wants to stay close to its family, while maintaining a cool, distant facade. Either way, the video just goes to show that maybe cats aren’t so unpredictable after all.

While the video is a heartwarming reminder of how cats and dogs can be friends, some Redditors have pointed out that letting your cat roam outside might not be so great for local wildlife. If you have a cat and want to let them explore outdoors, it's a good idea to equip them with a bell. This gives birds and other small animals a better chance to escape from these natural-born hunters.

Check out the video below, and if you're curious about tracking your own pets' adventures, head over to the Tractive website to see how it’s done.

A pet owner put Tractive GPS trackers on his cat and dog. While on a dog walk, the tracker shows how the cat follows its human and the family dog the whole time.

A man named Spencer began mowing lawns when he was just 11 years old, using his father's push mower to earn some money. That bloomed into a successful landscaping business—SB Mowing—by the time he graduated high school, and now he has a thriving social media presence. His YouTube channel features videos of him mowing deserted or overgrown homes for free and during one such adventure, something unexpected happened.

While working on a property in Texas that was up for auction after a foreclosure, Spencer found a cat lying in the yard. Appearing to have a wound, the injured animal wasn't scared off by the loud noises of the leaf blower, and even let Spencer pet and hold him. After making several calls, Spencer finally found someone willing to help and took the wounded kitty to Edgar and Ivy's Cat Sanctuary, which specializes in caring for injured and abandoned cats.

The feline had gotten into a catfight, and its injuries had become infected. Luckily, the sanctuary treated the cat and nursed him back to health. Spencer was so moved by their willingness to help and passion for what they do that he encouraged his followers to donate to a GoFundMe. When he first started the fundraiser, he set a goal of $10,000, having no idea that the sanctuary was actually on the verge of closing due to a lack of funds.

After sharing the link with his millions of followers, the $10,000 goal was met nearly instantly. In fact, as of writing, the fundraiser stands at over $190,000. This ensures that the sanctuary will have more than enough funds to purchase much-needed supplies and continue helping cats in the Corpus Christi area by expanding its facilities.

As for the cat Spencer found? The sanctuary named him SB, in honor of the mowing company. And, since he'd shown such an interest in caring for kittens, the shelter decided to keep him.

Spencer of SB Mowing has a huge online following that watches him mow overgrown and abandoned lots for free.

Recently, he encountered a stray, injured cat while mowing a foreclosure in Corpus Christi, Texas.

He then started a fundraiser for the only cat sanctuary that would accept the kitty he found.

Little did he know that the shelter was on the verge of closure and that the generous donations of his fans would allow them to keep their doors open.

Torn cushions, scuffed up carpets, and scratched furniture—many cat owners know this sight all too well. For some pet parents, this is simply seen as their beloved cat's claw maintenance. It can't be helped! Still, there seems to be a better outlet for your kitty to file their claws—with a chance of you even celebrating what they've done. Luckily, industrial designer Zhenyang Yan of Shanghai-based company Livelyhood LTD. has designed Catvas, a scratching pad for cats to claw at and express themselves on, resulting in a one-of-a-kind piece of art you can actually hang on your wall.

Catvas challenges the idea that cat scratching posts and pads are lowly consumables bound for the trash can once they've been used throughly. Instead, they can be mementos of your cat's life in a way that a photograph could never capture. After all, cats leave pheromones while scratching, creating a sense of territory and emotional connection with the object they've scratched. It is also what keeps them healthy as it not only removes the outer layer of their nails, but also helps them vent their emotions.

To make this idea work, Catvas has a double layer of fabric that results in colorful designs as cats scratch to their heart's content. When enough time (and scratching) has passed, the color underneath will begin to show in a unique pattern. The L-shaped structure is designed to fit the natural stretching habits of cats, with the removable panels allowing for easy replacement. Once done, you can frame the panels and be proud of what your cat has made.

What's best, Catvas is constructed from mostly recyclable materials, including wood, aluminum, and fabric made from old cloth and mycorrhiza. To make it easier for cats to scratch it and for you to get a cool design, the top layer is thinner than the bottom one. It also has easy-to-assemble components, significantly reducing packaging costs and waste.

This clever conception has been awarded the 2024 Iron A' Design Award in Pet Care, Toys, Supplies and Products for Animals Design. “Catvas is a new pet product that reshapes scratching from a destructive behavior into a creative process,” writes A' Design Award. “It gives both people and cats the chance to co-create their living spaces together.”

Catvas is a scratching pad you can easily turn in into wall art once your cat has left its marks on it.

Rather than being seen as consumables, Catvas proposes that scratching posts can be mementos of your cat's life in a way that a photograph could never capture.

15th-Century Manuscript Covered in Medieval Cat’s Paw Prints and Urine

Today, cats are the kings and queens of the internet. Their popularity amongst humans is nothing new though. Felines have accompanied humankind for centuries for a variety of reasons. Medieval monks often kept cats in their monasteries because their kitty companions protected their food stores from rodents. Cats were also employed to limit the rodent population, as mice and rats were known to nibble on manuscript pages, ruining them. But occasionally, cats also caused damage to these precious manuscripts by walking over them when the ink was still drying. They'd even urinate on the now-antiquated tomes, proving that cats have been a menace for centuries.

Finding firsthand sources that prove how meddlesome and carefree cats have always been may be rare, but they do exist. One prime example comes from 1420 that details its cat-astrophic ruination. The manuscript—currently stored in The Historisches Archiv in Cologne, Germany—is truly illuminating, though probably not in the way the monk intended it to be. Two pages have been left noticeably unfinished, with a drawn picture of a cat and accusatory fingers pointing at scribbled handwriting on the right page.

The scribe's notes, when translated into English, read: “Here is nothing missing, but a cat urinated on this during a certain night. Cursed be the pesty cat that urinated over this book during the night in Deventer and because of it many others [other cats] too. And beware well not to leave open books at night where cats can come.” It's good to know that 600 years later, cats haven't really changed, as any cat owner could attest.

You can find more information on the relationship between monks and their cats on Medieval Fragments.

Senior Cats Get Their Own Purrfect Retirement Village in the UK

Kittens are universally adorable, but what about when they grow up? Senior cats historically get adopted much less than young cats and kittens whose nonstop antics are hard to pass up. As a result, many elder cats who have no health problems end up being euthanized at overcrowded shelters. In one English town, though, they're living their best lives in a retirement village built just for them.

After the staff at Shropshire Cat Rescue grew saddened by watching older cats live out their last years stuck in small pens, they decided to build the retirement village featuring six luxury chalets as well as the “Moggie Mansion” in 2009. Each chalet can house four cats with room to spare. The mansion acts a sort of community room for when the cats want to mix with their fellow golden oldies.

While having space to roam around outside during their waking hours, the cats also have no shortage of doting humans prepared to give lots of pets or offer a lap for the geriatric kitties to sit in. In fact, the rescue runs a program bringing both adults and children in to read books to the cats.

Along with their homey accommodations and all the social time they could desire, the senior cats are weighed each week and get a vet visit if there is ever a concern about their health. This great care has led to some pet surrenders by elder cat owners who can't tend to their pet's needs and want to ensure their beloved animal companions live well for the rest of their days.

Along with the 20 or so senior cats, Shropshire Cat Rescue also has free-roaming cats and a kitten nursery along with their active adoption program. As delightful as their current retirement village is, the rescue is hoping to raise enough money to move to a 10-acre plot and expand their facilities including their beloved senior village.

If you’d like to help Shropshire Cat Rescue expand, you can donate to their cause online.

Elderly cats have their own little retirement village called Shropshire Cat Rescue.

The sweet senior kitties who reside there get to spend their later years pampered and napping as much as they want.

Watch this veterinarian visit the cat retirement village and meet one of its most beloved residents, Johnny the blind and deaf cat.

Cats and birds are pretty much natural enemies, and it's not difficult to figure out why. However, one cat owner in the UK, affectionately known as CatDad, has made it his mission to begin mending the divide between the two species. In a heartwarming video, he demonstrates how he repurposes shed cat hair. Rather than throwing it away, CatDad carries it outside (while holding Teddie, one of the two cats it came from) and carefully places it in a suet bird feeder before hanging it on a tree.

His intention isn't to feed birds cat fur, though. What he's doing is actually providing fur for birds to build their nests with. Later in the video, we see a small songbird snatching up bits of fur in its beak and flying away. As it turns out, cat fur makes a purrfect addition to nests, thanks to its light and fluffy qualities. Since this is something that birds probably wouldn't be able to find in the wild very easily, they seem to appreciate the kindhearted man making their jobs easier.

The original TikTok video has made its way over to Reddit where Redditors have chimed in with their own heartwarming reactions. Someone shared that they do the same thing with their golden retriever's fur. Another user also does this with their Shiba Inu's shedding, and admits, “I could make another dog out of the hair that comes off him, so I let the birds put it to good use.”

Ultimately, putting it out for birds is a great way to repurpose pet fur, but if you're planning on doing this with your pet, make sure they haven't been treated with a topical flea or tick prevention. Some Redditors pointed out that these medications could harm the baby birds. You also want to avoid using particularly long hairs, as this could present dangers for the small animals and their wings if they get tangled up.

There's a kindhearted man in the UK known simply as CatDad who shares his everyday adventures with his two cats Teddie and Casper.

Many people who work from home love the extra time that gives them with their beloved pets. But as anyone with a cat will tell you, the situation can be a little tricky. Best case scenario, they may just lie next to you on the ground or perhaps settle on your lap. Most likely, though, kitties can be much quirkier (and sometimes naughtier) than that and they like to block screens and sprawl across keyboards. But what if they had a dedicated space next to you without disturbing your work day? The Desk Nest Cat Bed may be the answer.

The company behind this new piece of pet furniture, Quantum Mango, describes the Desk Nest Cat Bed as a “lifestyle upgrade for people who want to keep their beloved cats close without interruptions, compromising workspace or comfort.” This round bed rises over your desk, standing 12 inches tall on a 4.5-inch round metal base. Despite its tiny size, it can hold up to 25 pounds, and it is able to spin a full 360º around.

The Desk Nest Cat Bed is also easy to set up, without the need to drill or permanently modify your desk. All you have to do is attach the bed to the edge of your desk, adjust it to where you want it to be, and then just place your cat. For extra safety and coziness, the bed features raised walls and a padded cushion.

While it was designed with people who work from home in mind, the Desk Nest Cat Bed is also suited for students and gamers. Its clever design lets your furry friend get comfortable and stay close while keeping your workspace tidy and optimized. Its stylish design also comes in two colors—walnut and white oak—allowing it fit right in with just about any office decor.

This Desk Nest Cat Bed is so beloved that its fundraising campaign has already been fully funded. In fact, it was funded in only six minutes! If you'd like to get one for your feline coworker, you can buy it for a special price on Kickstarter.

What if your cat had a dedicated space next to you at your home office? Take a look at the clever Desk Nest Cat Bed.

Have you ever wondered what your pet gets up to all day? One TikToker (known simply as ih.gcj) recently decided that they were tired of pondering and attached a small camera to their cat's collar to keep track of what their daily routine was like. The results may not have been quite what they expected, but they are extremely entertaining nonetheless.

Thanks to the camera, internet users were treated to a video of a high-speed chase from the cat's point of view. It shows our feline tour guide chasing another cat outside of an apartment complex. The purr-suit is seriously intense, filled with hissing, panting, and a brief scrap between the two cats, during which the camera goes black and all we can hear are the noises of an active cat fight. The animals run beneath cars, leap over mopeds, and streak across grass and pavement at breakneck speed, all in a dazzling display of purr-kour.

It’s hard to look away during the chase, anticipating a final showdown between the cats with an ultimate victor; but, unfortunately, the video cuts off before we see whether or not the cat successfully catches up to its foe. It's hard to say what the offending feline did to enrage the other so deeply, but hopefully fights like these are rare and both cats got away unscathed. Regardless, the video certainly took watchers on a wild ride. Many viewers point out the similarities between the captured footage and scenes from nail-biting action movies; some even argue it's better than most blockbusters out there.

If you found yourself unable to look away, you're in luck. It looks like the pet owner’s entire TikTok account is dedicated to addictive videos such as these. Their cat is undeniably the faceless star of this POV show and strangers around the world are tuning in to see what mischief they get up to next.

Cat lovers will rejoice over Alice Yoo‘s new cute AI-generated images. Her Space Cats series shows a group of felines suited up as astronauts. Whether they're going on a spacewalk or at the command center, these “astrocats” are in control.

Yoo's AI art is inspired by the things she loves, and cats are certainly on that list. Interestingly enough, a cat in outer space isn't actually that far-fetched. In 1963, French researchers sent Félicette, a stray cat, on a space mission. Félicette was handpicked from a group of 14 cats that underwent intense training for the journey. She was then launched from a base in the Sahara Desert and made her way 100 miles above Earth before safely landing.

So, while Yoo's Space Cats may seem like a cute fairytale, there's actually a grain of truth in the artwork. “With each cosmic journey, they embody the true essence of explorers, fearlessly embracing the mysteries of the universe,” writes Yoo. “Their adventures serve as an inspiring reminder that courage knows no bounds, even for those with whiskers and paws, and that the call of the cosmos can awaken the adventurer in us all.”

Scroll down to see even more of Yoo's cats in outer space, then head over to It's Heart Art, where it's possible to purchase prints.

Interestingly, in 1963 French researchers actually did send a cat named Félicette into space.

The Worcester Public Library in Massachusetts does not have late fees, but they do charge for damaged or missing books. However, during the month of March, the library branch will allow its patrons to pay fines by sending in cat pictures.

The program is part of the larger “March Meowness: Felines for Fee Forgiveness” campaign that the library has organized. Their website explains that patrons can “Show us a picture of your cat, a famous cat, a picture you drew of a cat, a shelter cat – any cat, and we will forgive WPL fees on your library account.” They state that “honorary cats” are also accepted, “so you may show us a picture or drawing of a dog, raccoon, orca, capybara, or any other animal.”

In addition to its cat-centric fee forgiveness program, the library will also be hosting a variety of cat-themed crafts and activities throughout March for all ages. These include making toys for shelter cats and showing a free screening of the Cats movie.

Cat pictures can be physically brought in or sent via email, and people are encouraged to leave their images on the community bulletin board. Regardless of how patrons bring their photos in, one thing is certain—the Worcester Public Library is definitively going to become feline-themed in March.
